+1 on the Dekker books. Good reading. I enjoyed the entire trilogy. I too like all of Peretti's books. He presents some wonderful word pictures.
Brock and Boede Thane also have several good books written in series.

Taeko, If you liked This Present Darkness, you must read the sequal - Piercing the Darkness! Frank Peretti is an awesome writer. He has some other books out including Monster, the Oath, and House (co-written with Ted Dekker). And if you like Peretti, you'll love Tedd Dekker. He's written a ton of books but I'd recommend starting with the color trilogy (Black, Red, White).

oh yeah and in terms of blogs/blurbs i love this guy's:

i especially recommend "to write love on her arms" and "note to self". they're absolutely amazing. they seriously changed my views on Christianity and our purpose in life in this way:

"We often ask God to show up. We pray prayers of rescue. Perhaps God would ask us to be that rescue, to be His body, to move for things that matter. He is not invisible when we come alive. I might be simple but more and more, I believe God works in love, speaks in love, is revealed in our love. I have seen that this week and honestly, it has been simple: Take a broken girl, treat her like a famous princess, give her the best seats in the house. Buy her coffee and cigarettes for the coming down, books and bathroom things for the days ahead. Tell her something true when all she's known are lies. Tell her God loves her. Tell her about forgiveness, the possibility of freedom, tell her she was made to dance in white dresses. All these things are true.

We are only asked to love, to offer hope to the many hopeless. We don't get to choose all the endings, but we are asked to play the rescuers. We won't solve all mysteries and our hearts will certainly break in such a vulnerable life, but it is the best way. We were made to be lovers bold in broken places, pouring ourselves out again and again until we're called home. "

and i especially loved the part about how the stars are always there but we sometimes miss them in the dirt and clouds.

so amazing. go read them.

I just started The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The first 20 pages absolutely blew me away. The man truly knew the cost of following Christ (he was leading an illegal seminary in Nazi Germany and was executed there), a cost we don't really count much in America. It is his fear (as well as mine) that the promise of cheap grace has brought the wide road of the world straight through the church, and most people in our pews have never stepped on the narrow road to God. Certainly grace comes by faith alone, but it is not cheap. It cost Christ His life, and it will cost us everything as well (see Luke 14:26, 1 John 2:4, and Mark 8:34). Jesus told us, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do" (John 14:12), yet we rarely teach this any more. We teach, "Pray this prayer and you're saved, and don't ever question that," even though the Bible tells us to test ourselves.

I'm currently reading "Freedom's Frame" by Rick Green on keeping the foundations of our country and maintaining its truths - in spite of revisionist historians. I'm also reading "Man of Steel and Velvet"...the author escapes me.

I'm a big Frank Peretti fan as well (my favs are the Darkness series and the Visitation) and of Max Lucado and John Maxwell.

The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel and The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey. Thought I'd pick up some classics that I've always wanted to read but never made time for, that's the cost of working at a Christian bookstore, I always see the latest and greatest and sometimes forget about the classics.

Last book I read was Bon Apetit by Sandra Byrd. This was book 2 in the French Twist Series. . .easy read and an enjoyable story. Before that I read Adam by Ted Dekker, one of my favorite authors. Very intense book about murder and spiritual warfare. Great book, I couldn't put it down.

The Weust New Testament expanded translation. One verse stands out in my mind.
the passage where Satan entered into Judas Iscariot before the betrayal.

John 13 1–4 Now, before the feast of the passover, Jesus, since He knew that His hour had come the purpose of which was that He should pass over out of this world to the Father, having loved with a divine, self-sacrificial love His uniquely-owned ones, those in the world, He loved them to the uttermost. And supper being in progress, the devil having already hurled into the heart of Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, with a force so that it stayed there, to betray Him, Jesus knowing that all things the Father gave into His hands and that from God He had come and to God He was departing, arises from the supper and lays aside His outer garments, and having taken a towel, He bound it around himself. Wuest, K. S. (1997, c1961). The New Testament : An expanded translation. First published in 3 vols., 1956-59, under title: Expanded translation of the Greek New Testament. (Jn 13:1). Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans.
My thought here on the underlined items above: the literal greek mentions the heart as a place where attitudes and plans can be hurled by spirits. We all have three things that make up our beings, our spirit, soul and body Our spirit is made up of three things, our conscience, intuition and capability for devotion. Our soul is made up of three things, our mind will and emotions
Our body is made up of three things, our flesh, blood and bones.
For a spirit to hurl an attitude or a plan into our hearts with a force so strong that it stayed there would be like the large hadron collider like I discuss under the video on this platform with that name.
The ions that the large hadron collider contains are accelerated to near the speed of light and we attempt to smash them into each other. According to Astronomy cast podcasters dangerous and significant particle physics consequences will almost certainly occur. There are more than just three dimensions in the universe. If a spirit comes into our dimension from one of the other dimensions in the universe and hurls an attitude or a plan into our hearts (as John 13 discusses here in the case of the betrayal of Jesus plan that Judas Iscariot had lodged in his heart so it stayed there) do we need to each of us get a miniature black hole that we can carry around in our pocket or purse, and whenever an evil thought, attitude or plan tries to hurl itself into our soul (remember the definition above mind will and emotions, and our hearts are where our will and our emotions are located) so therefore our hearts are getting things hurled at them with light speed force, we take our miniature black hole out, pop the top off and gently coax the evil thought, attitude or plan to slip out of us and disappear into the miniature black hole? We then take our top and pop it back on our miniature black hole we carry in a special lead lined thermos, and put it back in our pocket or purse. We need to be really careful about the black hole we carry around so it doesn't take more matter that what we intend that it takes. Our thoughts, plans and attitudes are ok to keep, its those items hurled at our hearts by evil spirits that we are trying to get rid of. I am here to announce to all that this is what the bible says we are doing when we pray, and when we cast out demons by the power of the Holy Spirit as described in many places in the New Testament. There you go, I just saved the world 8 billion dollars in research expenditures for the large hadron collider because we have the multidimensional key already, prayer...
