Why does worship music often feel lacking compared to secular music?

Good thoughts and well put everyone. Personally, like many people, I listen to alot of secular music. I went to concert by The Fray and Jacks Mannequin, for some reason it felt like church. So I do b…

I agree! For me personally, there are so many times songs of worship fly right over my head. Its like I can't own all the phraseology that is commonly used today. Honestly I often have more questions…

I’m going to play the instigator, it’s a big question I’ve been trying to pin down and just can’t do it! I’d love to hear your thoughts since I’m just stuck! To start, take the music of A.F.I., for…

I’m trying to figure which topics and language is appropriate for the “Sunday Service” setting. Lament is absent from 98% of what I see used on a Sunday service. Yet, most of the time I don’t feel to…

It annoys me when bands use these websites as a place to deposit promotional fodder; is music just about selling CDs and merch?

About Me
A person is the summation of so many stories. People, places, and things interact to create events that define us. For me I've been involved in so many events, indebted to so many people that it would be dishonest to try to describe "Me" in a paragraph or two. I've experienced tragedy, joy, friendship... as we all have. As I grow older I have this sense of belonging to humanity in a way I didn't before. We all have ached, asked tough questions, seen beauty, and experienced these things in life that define us as being human. I'm just a piece in this puzzle, no more interesting or important than you. My music is just my small part to play; its how I interact with things in life and express the difficulties and successes I've had being "Me". We all have so much to say with so few people to listen to us; maybe I could listen to you sometime.

How would you describe your level of Christian faith?
It is signficant
Share your testimony
Grew up in the church, in a Christian home, grew up leading worship and writing worship songs; but still didn't really find Jesus real until my 20's. But I can say He's real.

The most embarrassing thing I ever did was:
When dating my now wife, we saw "The Ring" and it freaked me out (I'm a wimp when it comes to horror). I went home, couldn't sleep and tried calling her... but her dad answered the phone... it was 2:00 am...
I believe...

God's Justice isn't Just a Hammer that Smashes me

The contrast between God and evil is striking, like day and night, yet God doesn't just detach Himself from the suffering that results from evil, He is right in the middle of the mess of this world. I used to see the reason for His involvement in this broken life, despite His holiness, as being because of His love and faithfulness. I would view His justice and righteousness as being in a separate dimension from His love. That was a broken view of God, because I saw His love as reaching out to me… Continue

Bored with Christians, Church and Faith?

I recently had a simple and sobering thought. It has come up as a result of two fairly simple questions and discussions I’ve had the past month. One involved the concept of serving in a church becoming dry and stale; the other involved the question of how to inspire the youth who attend a particular youth group who claim church and Jesus are boring. I think that (the “boring factor”) is one of the quintessential challenges facing Western Christianity. Though I had these discussions with differen… Continue

Suspended in Faith

I was raised to think scientifically. In life I look for hypotheses, theories, and evidences supporting or usurping whichever idea I encounter. I have been taught that objective thought is superior to faith driven thought; I also value my objective thought when it does not discriminate against other thoughts, just when it disproves the ones containing no verifiable evidence. The point I am trying to reach is this: I operate in a scientific world. I recognize not everybody embraces science… and t… Continue

Defining Infinite Absolutes

I fear this entry may be hard to follow (if any of my blog entries are easy anyway!) Hopefully it makes some sense.

I’ve been caught between two Christian ideals recently. Sometimes with these big thoughts I may be seeing things funny; but regardless, I’ve still found my thoughts caught up. It comes when I try to reconcile God’s infiniteness and the existence of absolutes. I believe absolutes exist, and I believe God to be infinite. But, can absolutes be applied to an infinite God? I mean, is i… Continue
